Unloving

Christianity has a lot to answer for : war,
intolerance, prejudice, sanctimony
hypocrisy,
pomposity
and probably Trump.
A fool, it is inscribed, can always find a passage
of Scripture to support their foolishness.
God’s word –
God’s name used to justify…. Pretty much anything.
Still, his son gave a pretty good definition
of love
“Love one another as I have loved you.”
When questioned as to operating instructions
“do unto others as you would them do to you.”

He was likeable, charming, good humoured,
would be a good boss and good to work for.
Truth wasn’t able to attend the interview, it showed up later –
there was no job –
inside job –
government regulations require promulgation of vacancy.
Personally, no big deal, bruised pride – a two week too early haircut,
a few dollars of petrol and some dry-cleaning
but …
Did some push the boat out,
a single mother buy
a new outfit, cancel dental check-up,
or continue with threadbare tyres.?
Do unto others …….. I wonder if he would like to
scrub, to sparkle, to hope …. for nothing.

Most of my life has been spent on the bench, occasionally called into the game by extravagance or attenuation. Waiting has turned a loner into a recorder - nondescript and inconsequential, more not noticed than overlooked - the non-vantage point of children not yet considered old enough to understand. Orphaned Islands (Un)poetry is a lifetime of picking anecdotes up and not throwing them away. Stories collected like odds and ends placed in a box in the basement, the garage, the garden shed - uncertain as to what their use might be but knowing that one day there might be one.
